How The Best Leaders Engage Their Emotions To Lead Better

Do you allow for emotional moments in your business?

I’m not talking about Kumbaya moments or a release after stress. I mean when deep, visceral fears, dreams, and hopes are laid bare by you, the leader.

After facilitating hundreds of multi-day strategic planning sessions with founder-led businesses, I’ve learned that these emotional moments—(yes, often accompanied with the ugly face of holding back tears) —are when everything changes. This is when everything comes together, clarity emerges, and the weight is lifted.

I've heard things like:

I’ve been looking for a blueprint to do this with my family, and I didn't know what to do. This is it. You've done something I never thought was possible. These last two days are the new path forward.”

“I’ve been trying to communicate with my team the vision and what we needed to do next but just couldn’t. We’ve tried almost everything. This is the first time we’re all aligned and I don't feel the stress of doing it alone. Thank you.”

Here's my takeaway: strong moments create even stronger teams. Whether through emotions or facing a challenge together, a strong team gives every founder and leader the opportunity to achieve what they truly desire: freedom. Do you have that freedom?
